Its a Jungle in here

It is birthday cake season for me. This past weekend I made another cake for one of my best customers. One of Cam's classmates from Gymboree also turned 4 and had her birthday party this past Saturday. The theme for Maya's birthday this year was the jungle. Madel so nicely left almost everything up to me. After a bit of searching I came up with the above cake. As far a fillings the only thing I was required to do was the chocolate cake with the strawberry crack filling. I made sure that the largest cake was done that way. As a surprise I decided to try some thing new and make the second layer the tye-dyed cake with buttercream filling. And the top was yellow cake with whipped dark chocolate ganache filling. Originally the cake had a monkey hanging from the tree. Earlier in the day I broke the first monkey but was smart enough to have a backup. I packaged everything up nice and secure and headed for the party. Everything made it safe and sound. It wasn't until I was taking the palm tree out of the basket that I broke the monkey off yet again. At least I know better for next time. It was really neat when they cut into the second layer all the kids oooohhhhed and aaaahhhed when they saw the tye dye. I would say that this was another successful cake.

Princess Ella Cake

Princess Ella turned 4 in the beginning of May. What kind of cake would I make? A princess castle of course. Usually when I make a cake that has a lot of detail I tend to stress like crazy. For some reason, except for the turret tops, this cake was a breeze. It turned out exactly how I wanted it to look from the start. Everyone loved it. Laurie, Ella's mom, said that this was the first cake that they actually finished.
